🔗 Share this article The Battle Royale's Specialized Traversal Techniques Become Widely Accessible This Season Respawn Entertainment has a special treat in store for the popular battle royale players, perfectly timed for the holidays. Enthusiasts of this game's highly fluid traversal will be pleased to discover that an innovative traversal feature will be introduced when the Amped season goes live on Nov. 4. Introducing The Mantle Boost Dubbed "Mantle Boosting" by Respawn, this ability gives players a surge of forward momentum when scaling obstacles. As explained key developer the design lead, Mantle Boosting has unofficially existed of Apex Legends for quite a while, often called as "mantle jumping." But it's no easy feat for the average player, and is mainly used by competitive players in competitive play or esports competitions. In this update, the team is making it easier for players of all skill levels to successfully perform these tricky speed-boosts. "Mantle Boosts have been in Apex for a while, but the movement requires skill to perform and gamers might not realize it [is in the game] without outside knowledge," Canavese explains. "We're adding a Mantle Boost indicator so users can easily see when and how to trigger the fast-paced traversal skill, opening up the feature and introducing new ways to play for a much wider base." The Reasoning Behind Make It Accessible What's the reason for making a previously obscure technique available to all players? Principal designer the development lead explains developers wants gamers to feel powerful — including ones who are new. "[The playerbase] is doing other crazy stuff like super-gliding and tap-strafing, and we examined at other games, observed what our players execute, and we said, 'How can we extend some of this power to a broader audience?'" the designer clarifies. "Because right now, certain techniques are somewhat awkward to access — you need to change controls and execute within one-frame windows. So we said, 'How about we create a polished version?'" Season 27 Emphasis on Mobility Mobility is largely the name of the game in this season, with Legends the gravity mage, the defensive specialist, and the aerial combatant all getting buffs to maintain them mobile. Recovery time on her tactical ability has been decreased, and this skill will propel players upward much quicker than before. Her defensive walls feature overhead protection and the ability to grant movement bonuses to allies in range. However the spotlight is on aerial Valkyrie receiving significant improvements now, with various adjustments applied to enhance her as stronger, faster, and more lethal. "I think there's quite a consensus that Valkyrie's time is here," says Legend designer the designer. "Certainly she was top-tier previously, but with the introduction of other characters, mobility perks, and redeployment tools, it felt like she's not very relevant in current Apex. It was an ideal chance for the team to reexamine multiple elements [of her kit] and essentially bring her back to former prominence." Valkyrie's Upgrades To restore her competitive status in current strategies, Holstead notes Respawn assessed all her skills and implemented some powerful modifications. Her VTOL Jets received improvements, boosting her speed during flight, and the jets themselves now recharge three times faster, enabling her to spend more time in the air. Now she won't be harmed from her own Missile Swarm, which has also been upgraded to tag opponents who are hit from the missiles. Her squad redeploy ability — which launches her entire squad into the air for redeployment or escape — requires much less time to activate. Additionally, she gains some new perk choices that players can select to conserve resources, expand the spread of her Missile Swarm, or accelerate her Skyward Dive takeoff time. "Her jet pack fulfills that jet-fighter fantasy," Holstead comments. Map Changes Even the game's only floating arena, Olympus, receives a mobility-focused facelift, with major changes that opens up bottlenecks and renders claiming the high ground more manageable. The developers state the game this update is all about giving players the tools required to compete in matches. "Really, we examined Apex's core identity as a fast-paced FPS," explains principal designer Josh Mohan. Apex Legends the Amped season launches November 4th at the specified times.
