The Plot and New Cast The film's events are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games. The supporting roles feature several notable actors in important characters: Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee. Ralph Fiennes will appear as a younger version of the calculating President Snow. What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule In other news, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2. Regarding the filming timeline: Principal photography commenced in the summer of 2025.
